On our last morning in London we spent some time exploring London’s West End. This iconic precinct is known as a high end entertainment and theatre district – above are some photos we took on the bus ride here.
We visited these places in and around the West End:
- Thistle Bloomsbury Park Hotel – this is where we stayed
- Piccadilly Circus and the Hard Rock Café
- Jermyn Street
- 3 Savile Row – where the Beatles performed their rooftop concert, which became their last public appearance together
- Liberty London – where Cruella worked in the 2021 movie
- Regent Street
- Tavistock Square
- Russell Square
The term ‘West End’ was first used to describe this area in the early 19th century. The area is west of Westminster, and became popular with London’s wealthy as it was upwind of the smoke and smog arising from the industrial east.
The Adelphi opened as the first theatre in 1806, marking the beginnings of what has become a major theatre, retail and dining hub.
On scanning the map, I couldn’t help but notice a lot of Monopoly board places around the area, some of which we visited – such as Piccadilly, Mayfair, Leicester Square, Pall Mall and Oxford Street. Very London-esque!
