We spent our last night in the UK at the Thistle Bloomsbury Park Hotel in London’s west end.
Built in 1837, this seven floor Georgian hotel is on busy Southampton Row which is an interesting blend of historic and cosmopolitan. There were gardens nearby in every direction which were a breath of fresh air amongst the bustle of the city – we visited Russell Square and Tavistock Square while we were here.
Although the hotel is nearly 200 years old, our room was ultra-modern and spacious. We looked out to the city skyline in one direction (photos 3-6), and out onto a quaint old laneway in the other (photo 7).
The last four photos are near Bloomsbury Square Garden which we walked past on our way from the hotel to the bus. Having been designed in the 1660s, this is one of London's oldest garden squares.
Thistle Bloomsbury Park would be the ideal place to stay for a few days to visit the British Museum, London's West End - especially the theatre scene, Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park. There were also numerous smaller museums around the area which looked interesting, like the Postal Museum, the Charles Dickens Museum, the London Archives and the London Transport Museum. Noted for next time!
