It seemed that no matter where we went in the UK, we were never far away from Harry Potter related places. Edinburgh was no exception!
JK Rowling wrote most of the Harry Potter book series while living in Edinburgh in the 1990s, so found much inspiration around the city – Edinburgh Old Town in particular.
We visited some of these places on our day out in Edinburgh, including iconic Victoria Street, which is said to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley, where wizards bought their magical supplies.
This curved thoroughfare, constructed between 1829 and 1834, famously features a row of brightly coloured shops which add a real splash of colour to the historic feel of Edinburgh Old Town. It is now home to many trendy dining and shopping establishments, making it very popular with tourists.
Victoria Street is home to Museum Context - also of Harry Potter fame, and we also visited another Edinburgh Harry Potter inspiration – Greyfriars Kirkyard.
