Robin Hood statue, Nottingham

The legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men has evolved over time. This heroic group of outlaws were known for stealing from the rich to give to the poor, and fought for the people against the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham, at Nottingham Castle.

Robin Hood was a skilled archer, and he and his band of followers lived in Sherwood Forest near Nottingham.

Their story has been adapted into multiple books, films and theatrical performances over the years.

The information about Robin Hood's existence is sketchy - did he really exist or is the story folklore passed down through the generations? Whatever the case, he was immortalised in 1949 with this statue just outside the Nottingham Castle wall.
