We stayed the night in the Dover Marina Hotel, a grand Georgian hotel overlooking the ocean. Also see my post about Dover.
Our room was on the second floor so the view was spectacular. We could see the White Cliffs of Dover to the left, a pier and marina to the right, and directly in front was a hazy outline of France across the English Channel - all the more special having visited there just a few days before.
The hotel was built in 1832 and was one of few buildings to survive severe bombing in the area during World War II. Sir Winston Churchill stayed here on several occasions during the war.
The hotel had been recently renovated so our room was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed an English breakfast in the dining room looking out onto the pebble beach which was a great start to the day.
