Big Ben, London

I must admit that I didn't know much about Big Ben before our visit but I was really impressed with the intricacy of its craftsmanship. Construction began in 1843 and was completed in 1859.

Big Ben is the name of the bell, the 96 metre tall tower is Elizabeth Tower. It was damaged by a bombing in 1941 during WWII, but never stopped chiming!

Big Ben is part of Westminster Palace, and sits right next to the River Thames and Westminster Bridge, which makes for an incredible view. We visited twice (Sunday and Tuesday) and it looks just as stunning during the day as it does at night.
