We visited the Arc de Triomphe right on peak hour so it was quite a sight to see streams of cars and cyclists making their way around it in what appeared to be ordered chaos, all travelling on the right hand side of the road of course!
The Arc is a mammoth structure but is also very elegant. We could see people at the top - it is said to offer amazing 360 degree views of Paris, including the Eiffel Tower. Next time we hope to climb it!
The Arc stands almost 50 metres high and 45 metres wide, and was commissioned by Napoleon to honour the French military. Construction spanned three decades between 1806 and 1836, however Napoleon never saw its completion as he died in 1821.
