We stayed a night at the Green Dragon, a 250 year old inn in the town of Wellington, Somerset. We first picked out this hotel because of its name - the Green Dragon from the Lord of the Rings. It turned out to be a charming old hotel which had been recently renovated, fortunately with much of its original character still retained.
Our room was on the first floor which offered a good view out onto the street. The staircase leading up to the bedroom was small and tricky to manoeuvre with large suitcases, but the room itself was large and comfortable.
When we arrived the street the hotel was closed due to a community event nearby, so as we ate dinner we watched out the window as the various families and groups came and went. We had expected a sleepy town but it was quite busy and energetic, with plenty of people also downstairs in the bistro and bar.
In the morning we were treated to a delicious made-to-order English breakfast which we could definitely get used to!
